Is acute bronchitis pneumonia?

Patient's question:

Recently, I've been experiencing chest pain and shortness of breath. The hospital examination suggested a respiratory disease, but the medication hasn't been very effective. Recently, my cough has worsened. Is acute bronchitis the same as pneumonia?

Doctor's answer:

Acute bronchitis is relatively milder compared to pneumonia. Pneumonia should involve lower respiratory tract infections, while bronchitis is more commonly associated with upper respiratory tract infections. In terms of treatment, it requires the use of many antibiotics, combined with various traditional Chinese medicine formulations for clearing heat and detoxifying. Additionally, many lung-cleansing and blood-cooling medications are used to treat this condition. This disease is somewhat contagious. It is recommended to follow the doctor's advice on medication, drink plenty of water, maintain a light diet, avoid smoking and alcohol, and prevent catching a cold.
