Should a thyroid nodule be biopsied?

Patient's question:

Because of a certain illness, I have been unable to stop taking medication for a long time. Due to the medication, my endocrine system has become problematic. Now, I want to stop taking the medication and regulate my body. Should I have a fine-needle aspiration of the thyroid nodule?

Doctor's answer:

Can thyroid nodules undergo needle biopsy? This depends on the condition, as well as the location and size of the fused nodule. Thyroid nodules can be benign or malignant. When a thorough ultrasound examination cannot diagnose whether the nodule is benign or malignant, a thyroid needle biopsy pathology examination is required for a definitive diagnosis. Additionally, if the thyroid nodule is relatively small, located in a deep position, and surrounded by major blood vessels, needle biopsy is not recommended.
