Is baldness caused by kidney deficiency?

Patient's question:

Recently, my appetite has been poor, and I've been experiencing some swelling in my body. I feel weak all over. When I went to the hospital for a check-up, they said it was kidney disease. Could hair loss be caused by kidney deficiency?

Doctor's answer:

If acne is caused by multiple factors again, and you have a typical Mediterranean type of acne, it is unlikely to be due to genetic predisposition or excessive mental exertion in later stages. Acne caused by kidney deficiency is usually localized to a smaller area, and with proper kidney-tonifying treatment, hair can grow back completely. Given your type of acne and age, the likelihood of regrowth is relatively low. However, it is still recommended that you visit a hospital for a TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) diagnosis and treatment, and take appropriate herbal medications for nourishment.
