Do I get hepatitis A and can it be transmitted?

Patient's question:

I am 38 years old. Recently, I feel that my liver is very tired. I haven't had much appetite, and at night, I always feel a sharp pain in my stomach. I went to the nearby hospital for a check-up and was told it's a liver disease. They asked me to get a shot. Can you tell me if I have hepatitis A, will it be contagious?

Doctor's answer:

Hepatitis A virus infection is an acute infectious disease that is primarily spread through the fecal-oral route. Eating dinner together is contagious, and it may also spread through water sources, potentially leading to large-scale outbreaks. Symptoms may include fatigue, reduced appetite, liver enlargement, and abnormal liver function. Generally, symptomatic treatment is recommended. It is advised not to eat dinner with hepatitis A patients to prevent infection. Developing a regular lifestyle, adhering to treatment, and maintaining a light diet with aerobic exercise are beneficial.
