Is this ankylosing spondylitis?

Patient's question:

These days, I've been undergoing intensive training. I'm currently a tennis player, and I'm working hard to make it into the national team. The amount of exercise I do every day is always very high and intense, which might be taking a toll on my body. My back hurts a lot. Is this ankylosing spondylitis?

Doctor's answer:

The back pain may be due to a strain from activity or caused by overexertion. It doesn't seem to be ankylosing spondylitis. Ankylosing spondylitis is an autoimmune disease, in addition to pain, it also involves joint fusion. Ankylosing spondylitis requires symptomatic treatment, including the use of anti-inflammatory and blood-activating medications, or corticosteroids. Surgery may be necessary if needed. Methods such as traction, acupuncture, and massage can also be used for treatment.
