Fading Post Station

Author: Zhang Yigong
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2007-01-01
Features: In the 1950s and 1960s, our press organized the publication of selections of outstanding long novels nationwide, showcasing the style and level of long novel creation at that time. After the new era, the number of long novels surged, with themes, styles, and techniques becoming increasingly diverse. To more comprehensively reflect the achievements of long novel creation during this period, in May 2004, we edited and published the series "Representative Works of Famous Contemporary Chinese Novelists," featuring the works of twenty-five writers. These works stood out for their depth, uniqueness, strong impact, or popularity among readers. The series received positive social response after publication. For this re-publication, we adjusted the original series selection, added more works, and included those that won the Mao Dun Literature Prize in the "Complete Collection of Mao Dun Literature Prize Winners." As a result, the "Representative Works of Famous Contemporary Chinese Novelists" series now offers a more complete and comprehensive selection, seamlessly connecting with our previously published "Contemporary Chinese Long Novel Selections" and "Complete Collection of Mao Dun Literature Prize Winners," allowing readers to gain a clearer understanding of the development trajectory and overall style of long novel creation since the founding of New China from different stages and perspectives. The author, through the experiences and perspective of a child, tells a series of stories about three families during the turbulent wartime, outlining the social changes in China over the past century, and depicting characters such as a Qing Dynasty scholar, an enlightened gentry member, a guerrilla commander, and a professional revolutionary. The portrayal is vivid and realistic. If Lin Haiyin's Old City Stories is a poem seen through a girl's eyes, then The Train to Faraway Station is a song sung through a boy's eyes. The former is tender, soft enough to reveal a faint nostalgia; the latter, amidst that nostalgia, carries a unique, rugged, and desolate charm. This book has won various awards, including the National Five-One Project Award and the National Book Award.
