Features: This book consists of three seemingly independent but interconnected tragic love stories. The protagonists are all teachers, they all love some kind of sport, and they have all experienced or witnessed a moment close to death, from which they have gained insights or understood certain things about life. This is the author's first collection of love stories after "Love in the Afternoon." Kyoichi Katayama, during his student days, read through the entire collection of modern Japanese literature, including works by Natsume Sōseki and Kenzaburō ōe, while also studying modern European philosophy from Descartes, Leibniz to structuralism, as well as Marx. Starting from his early twenties and thirties, he began writing novels, with "Breath," "The World Spins Around You," and "Don't Believe in John Lennon" being some of his representative works.
