Why does shock occur after alcohol intoxication?

Patient's question:

Yesterday, the company organized a get-together. Everyone had drinks at the time, and one colleague suddenly fainted. The scene became a bit chaotic for a moment, and everyone was scared. Fortunately, that colleague was okay later, so I wanted to ask what happens when someone faints again after drinking too much.

Doctor's answer:

After drinking beer, fainting may occur in two situations. The first is excessive drinking. After consuming a large amount of alcohol, the heart rate may increase and peripheral blood vessels may dilate. If it's hot, blood pressure may temporarily rise, leading to insufficient blood supply and causing fainting again. In most cases, patients can gradually recover after lying down. However, in one situation, the patient may have underlying heart disease or other conditions, and alcohol consumption may be a trigger, leading to a recurrence of fainting due to these other diseases. But the first possibility is more likely.
