Features: Jean-Baptiste Poquelin, known by his stage name Beaumarchais, was originally named Gautier-Gilles. He was a renowned playwright of the French Enlightenment. His plays were directly related to his life path. During France's transition from a feudal society to a capitalist society, he prioritized Enlightenment ideas, inherited the tradition of Diderot's serious drama, and used the form of popular comedy to resist society, expose the darkness of the feudal system, and had a profound influence. Beaumarchais was born into the petty bourgeoisie and made his fortune through clockmaking, rising into the upper class. Although he had not received formal education, he was well-read and knowledgeable, deeply influenced by the French Enlightenment thinkers Voltaire and Diderot. Despite his anti-feudal consciousness, like many petty bourgeoisie at the time, Beaumarchais still depended on the feudal upper class but was often excluded.
