Patient's question:
Doctor, hello. What is nephrotic syndrome? Recently, I had a health check-up, and the doctor mentioned nephrotic syndrome. I'm not very clear about this condition. Could you explain it to me? Is the treatment difficult? Will it interfere with my future marriage and having children? Thank you.Doctor's answer:
The most basic features of nephrotic syndrome are massive proteinuria, hypoproteinemia, (severe) edema, and hyperlipidemia, known as the "three highs and one low" and a group of clinical diagnostic syndromes characterized by other catabolic disorders. Patients with this condition who have severe edema and hypoproteinemia need to rest in bed. They can only return to sleep and exercise after the edema disappears and their general condition improves. In the later stages, nephrotic syndrome may reappear with abnormal kidney function, and it may even progress to uremia. Currently, at the level of modern medicine, this disease cannot be cured and requires long-term treatment with hormone-like drugs. However, this condition does not interfere with conception of the next generation. We advise you not to worry about it.
