What is the best treatment for metatarsalgia?

Patient's question:

The bone below my clavicle is painful, with slight swelling externally. It has been about half a month. Sometimes other parts of my body also ache, such as my ankle, lower back, and waist. A few days ago, the attending physician at the county hospital diagnosed it as periostitis (based on X-rays). Recently, I have been taking anti-inflammatory medication, which has slightly improved. The onset of the condition was half a month ago, and the cause is unclear.

Doctor's answer:

Local therapy: Cold compresses can be applied during the inflammatory stage; incision and drainage may be performed for those already inflamed; for tuberculous cases, after incision, necrotic bone and purulent unions should be scraped out, and streptomycin should be infused.
Systemic therapy: The cause should be addressed accordingly. For cases caused by systemic infections or focal infections, sulfonamides or antibiotics should be administered, with hormones used when necessary. Simultaneously, potential primary focal lesions must be thoroughly eliminated. Tuberculous cases require antitubercular drugs, while syphilitic cases should undergo specific syphilis treatment.
