Features: Lushun Museum was established in 1917, and its predecessor was the "Kwantung Governor-General's Museum" during the Japanese occupation of Dalian. In addition to its rich and unique collections, the museum also holds over 20,000 historical photographs taken by the "South Manchurian Railway Company" (hereinafter referred to as ""), which was known as Japan's "national policy company." These archival photographs primarily reflect the military occupation, economic exploitation, and cultural subjugation of Northeast China by Japanese colonial rule (1905–1945). They serve as primary sources for studying Japan's invasion of China during the late Qing Dynasty and hold significant historical and cultural value. This book selects and compiles a portion of the photographs that reflect the early operations of "" (1906–1911) along the railway lines and in Northeast China, aiming to provide visual materials for scholars of Qing history. The book is organized into four units based on the railway routes operated by "" during the early stages of its operations in South Manchuria: Dalian headquarters, the southern section of the South Manchurian Railway and Yingkou line, the Anfeng and Fushun lines, and the northern section of the South Manchurian Railway. These units collectively highlight the colonial rule of Dalian by "" and its economic exploitation of Northeast China through its railway lines and. Particularly under the so-called "civilian attire, military preparation" operational strategy, the latent military preparations that had long been in place. We hope this collection, presented in the form of visual history, can reveal the role of "" in the history of Japan's invasion of China. Most of the archival photographs compiled in this collection are rare historical materials that have never been previously shared with the public.
