"Five Thousand Years of Chinese Stories" includes 120 stories. These stories are arranged chronologically and vividly introduce major historical events, important historical figures, or historical phenomena in Chinese history. By reading these stories, one can vividly understand and grasp the basic content and general outline of the development of Chinese history. "Five Thousand Years of World Stories" includes 100 stories. These stories, combined with text, color illustrations, and historical photographs, recreate the highlights and moments of the past five thousand years of world history, outlining the tortuous course of world civilization's development. The content is rich yet concise, fully considering the psychological characteristics and cognitive level of children. History is an inexhaustible treasure trove of knowledge, containing the brilliant achievements and profound wisdom of human civilization. During childhood, reading these stories early on not only imparts historical knowledge but also helps children discern the truth, goodness, and beauty from the falsehood, evil, and ugliness in history, understand some principles of being a person, and learn a way of thinking. It sows the seeds of growth in young minds, undoubtedly having an extremely important impact and role in forming a correct worldview, life philosophy, and values in the future. "Reading history makes one wise." This is a famous saying by the British philosopher and scientist Francis Bacon, who said it over 300 years ago. Reading historical stories can also make one intelligent. We hope children can roam freely in the vast ocean of historical knowledge, become wise, broaden their horizons, sharpen their vision, and set their sights high, truly becoming a great "person" in the world. The stories in this book are suitable for parent-child reading together or can be read by parents. They all have their unique charm. This book was co-authored by professors, doctoral students, and master's students from the Department of History at Zhejiang University. During the writing process, we received great assistance and support from Professor Lou Junxin and Professor Lou Yisheng, who also provided many valuable and pertinent suggestions. Here, we extend our heartfelt gratitude.
