Kidney disease patients should avoid eating what kind of dishes?

Patient's question:

Recently, my lower back has been particularly painful and it keeps recurring, with an increasing frequency of bowel movements. Sometimes, I also experience incomplete urination. I went to the hospital for a thorough examination and found that it was caused by kidney insufficiency. What kind of vegetables should I avoid with kidney insufficiency?

Doctor's answer:

For patients with impaired kidney function, the staple diet should be based on cornstarch to increase the intake of plant proteins such as pork and flour. Appropriate protein intake; consume sufficient calories; pay attention to controlling fluid and salt (sodium) intake; avoid foods high in potassium and phosphorus, such as apples, pears, and cantaloupe, which have high potassium content. Watermelon and pears are not suitable for consumption due to their cooling properties. Fruits rich in trace elements, such as persimmons and hawthorn, should be avoided, while spinach and other recommended foods should be eaten. Low-protein foods should be consumed, especially those based on high-quality protein, such as eggs, milk, lean meat, and fish/shrimp. Patients with impaired kidney function who have edema and high blood lipids should limit the intake of high-cholesterol foods, such as egg yolks. Avoid spicy foods, alcohol, and smoking, and pay attention to rest.
