Features: Literature is the study of humanity, and children's literature is the literature of humanity at its inception. At the beginning of life, human nature is inherently good. Children's literature is the earliest form of literature that people encounter. Those children's literary works that have deeply moved children will remain unforgettable and beneficial throughout life. In this era of diverse media, we particularly need to advocate for literary reading among young children. Literary reading differs from reading textbooks, picture books, or educational materials. Literature moves, touches, and influences people through its vivid characters, rich personalities, aesthetic power, emotional power, moral power, and spiritual power. Classicism, authority, readability, and openness are the key goals of the "100 Classics of Chinese Children's Literature Series."
The "100 Classics of Chinese Children's Literature Series" represents the largest systematic review and summary of Chinese children's literature to date. The editors will carefully select 100 outstanding original children's literary works by 100 Chinese children's literature writers from the early 20th century to the present. The criteria for selection for the "100 Classics of Chinese Children's Literature Series" are as follows: First, the social impact, artistic quality, popularity among young children, and breadth of influence on young children of the works are evaluated to determine whether they possess enduring artistic charm and spiritual vitality that transcends time. Second, the contributions of the works to the development of Chinese children's literature are considered, including unique linguistic creativity, outstanding achievements in literary forms, distinct artistic personalities, notable innovations in expression, and their significance in the history of children's literature. Third, the creative attitude of the writers is assessed to determine whether they demonstrate a high sense of cultural responsibility and aesthetic duty, whether they have long been concerned with the spiritual nourishment of minors, and whether they have engaged in children's literature creation for an extended period.
Second, the "100 Classics of Chinese Children's Literature Series" is the most comprehensive collection of original children's literary works in contemporary Chinese children's literature. This is evident in the inclusion of representative figures from five generations of Chinese children's literature writers since the May Fourth Movement in the early 20th century. The 100 selected writers reflect the multicultural diversity of the Chinese nation, while also presenting a panoramic view of the mainland, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. The 100 works cover all literary forms related to modern children's studies, making it the most comprehensive collection of original Chinese children's literature in terms of literary genres.
Third, the value of excellence lies in its enduring legacy, and the significance of classics lies in their timeless relevance. The editors will design and curate the series to align with the aesthetic preferences and reading habits of contemporary young readers, ensuring that the new generation of readers—both young and old—will embrace and appreciate these original Chinese children's literature classics that have deeply moved and nurtured generations of young people.
The "100 Classics of Chinese Children's Literature Series" is not only a monumental publishing project that compiles the most significant original Chinese children's literary works to date but also a cultural accumulation and inheritance project of great practical and historical significance. It is also a promotional effort to revitalize modern Chinese children's literary masterpieces for a new era.
