What are the examples of cerebellar ataxia?

Patient's question:

My friend's father has been experiencing dizziness, vertigo, uncoordinated walking, instability when walking, and even slight imbalance when going up and down stairs since 2017. He has undergone some treatment before, but the improvement has not been significant. Do you have any examples of cerebellar ataxia?

Doctor's answer:

Random movement coordination disorder: Damage to the cerebellar hemisphere causes ataxia of the contralateral limb. It manifests as unhealthy distance judgment and intention tremor, with the upper limbs being more severely affected. The tremor becomes more pronounced as the movement approaches the target. The eyes fixate toward the affected side, revealing coarse nystagmus. Ataxia of the upper limbs and hands is most severe, making it impossible to perform coordinated fine motor movements smoothly, showing abnormal synergia, rapid alternation, and substitution activities. The handwriting becomes progressively larger (hypergraphia).
