How can one know they have meningitis

Patient's question:

Recently, I don't know why I can't sleep, which greatly affects my work efficiency. My friend recommended going to the neurology department for a check-up. How can one be diagnosed with meningitis?

Doctor's answer:

Definition of Meningitis
When the meninges surrounding the brain and the cerebrospinal fluid around the spinal cord become infected and produce inflammatory symptoms, we refer to this as meningitis. The common forms include bacterial and viral meningitis. Bacterial meningitis tends to be more severe. It can be transmitted indirectly, such as when an infection in another part of the body spreads to the central nervous system through the bloodstream. It can also be transmitted directly, such as through severe head trauma, infections in the ears, nose, throat, or teeth. Coughing and sneezing in meningitis patients are also contagious.
