Patient's question:
I have been experiencing dizziness recently, and I can't seem to eat properly either. My mental state isn't great either. When I went to the hospital for a check-up, they said it's a blood-related issue. Could you please explain what bone marrow transplantation is?Doctor's answer:
Bone marrow transplantation is a treatment method that involves administering normal bone marrow through the veins into a patient's body to replace diseased bone marrow. It is used to treat disorders of hematopoietic function, immune system deficiencies, hematological malignancies, and other types of malignancies. It is a treatment where normal bone marrow cells from donors are injected intravenously into patients with blood disorders such as leukemia or aplastic anemia. The hematopoietic stem cells used in bone marrow transplantation can be obtained not only from bone marrow but also through methods such as peripheral blood stem cell transplantation (PBSCT) or umbilical cord blood. This is collectively referred to as hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.
