What causes uremia?

Patient's question:

Uremia is caused by various kidney diseases, such as chronic glomerulonephritis, nephrotic syndrome, chronic interstitial nephritis, or patients with concurrent vascular diseases and renal vascular diseases, ischemic nephropathy, or malignant hypertension. If these diseases cannot be controlled, proteinuria will worsen. As proteinuria increases, glomerular sclerosis and filtration rate decline. If the glomerular filtration rate drops to more than 15 milliliters per minute, or the serum creatinine rises to more than 707 micromoles per liter, the patient enters the uremic stage.

Doctor's answer:

Hello! There are several causes of uremia, such as: nephritis, hypertension, diabetes, various infections, drug poisoning, etc. Among these, nephritis and chronic nephritis are the most common factors leading to uremia, followed by diabetes and nephrotoxic drugs. Age is also one of the factors. If these diseases are treated promptly, they are generally never likely to lead to uremia. Some cases of uremia can be treated effectively, while others may require lifelong treatment.
