Snake God - Representative Novels of Famous Contemporary Chinese Writers

Author: Jiang Zilong
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2007-01-01
Features: In the 1950s and 1960s, our publishing house organized the publication of a nationwide selection of outstanding long novels, showcasing the style and level of long novel creation at that time. After the new period, the number of long novels surged, with themes, styles, and techniques becoming increasingly diverse. To more comprehensively reflect the achievements of long novel creation during this era, in May 2004, we edited and published the series "Representative Works of Famous Contemporary Chinese Novelists," featuring the works of twenty-five writers. These works excelled in depth, uniqueness, or had sparked strong responses, or were widely enjoyed by readers. The series received positive social feedback after publication. For this re-publication, we adjusted the original series' selection, added more works, and included those that won the Mao Dun Literature Prize in the "Complete Collection of Mao Dun Literature Prize Winners." This way, the selection of the "Representative Works of Famous Contemporary Chinese Novelists" series has become more complete and comprehensive, and it aligns with our previously published series "Contemporary Chinese Long Novel Masterpieces" and "Complete Collection of Mao Dun Literature Prize Winners," creating a cohesive and interconnected reading experience. Readers can now gain a clearer understanding of the development and overall style of long novel creation in China since the founding of the People's Republic of China from different stages and perspectives. This book is a long novel by Jiang Zilong. The protagonist, Shao Nansun, is born into a legendary family of traditional Chinese medicine practitioners. Although he followed his father's wishes to complete a medical degree and become a doctor, he enjoys writing and falls in love with the most beautiful actress in the city, Hualuchan. To get closer to her, he voluntarily joins the Peking Opera troupe as a janitor known as "Grandson." Hualuchan went on stage at the age of five and took over the lead role at twelve. "Grandson's" sincerity moved her, and the two fell in love.
