How to treat a headache?

Patient's question:

I have been experiencing pain frequently these last couple of days. When my head hurts, my neck also feels quite painful. Moreover, when I lie down, I feel symptoms of headache and dizziness.

Doctor's answer:

The treatment of headaches, from a traditional Chinese medicine perspective, can involve acupuncture. For example, for rheumatic headaches, methods such as dispelling wind and dispelling cold, resolving dampness, and unblocking collaterals can be used. In addition to local acupoints, Fengchi (GB20), Touwei (ST8), Hegu (LI4), and Sanyangluo (LI5) can be combined. If it is a liver yang headache, methods such as calming the liver, lowering the reverse flow, extinguishing wind, and subduing yang can be adopted. In addition to local acupoints, Taichong (LR3) and Taixi (KI3) can be combined. If it is a phlegm turbidity headache, methods such as resolving phlegm, lowering turbidity, unblocking collaterals, and relieving pain can be used. In addition to local acupoints, Zhongwan (CV12) and Fenglong (ST40) can be combined.
