Features: This book is a collection of papers from the "East Asian Economic Cooperation Forum," jointly organized by the Institute for Comprehensive Development (China·Shenzhen) and the Japan Institute for International and Regional Studies in Guangxi, China, on November 24-25, 2005. Since 1995, the Institute for Comprehensive Development (China·Shenzhen) and the Japan Institute for International and Regional Studies have co-hosted nine editions of the "East Asian Economic Cooperation Forum" in Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Okinawa, Sanya, Macau, Fukuoka, Taiwan, Jeju Island, and Nanning. The forum has brought together officials, experts, and scholars from China, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, Cambodia, as well as Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan, to discuss the challenges faced by East Asian economies at different stages and to serve as a think tank and bridge for the region. The "East Asian Economic Cooperation Forum" has become a well-established platform, with its pragmatic research outcomes providing reference for the decision-making of governments in East Asian countries and playing a positive role in promoting regional economic cooperation. As an academic outcome of the "East Asian Economic Cooperation Forum," and to help more international and domestic individuals understand the process, challenges, and future opportunities and prospects of East Asian economic integration, we have compiled and published the speeches and discussions of participants after each edition of the forum.
