Public Policy Analysis

Author: Chen Zhenming
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2003-10-01
Features: This book is closely aligned with the teaching syllabus of the national core curriculum for MPA programs (Policy Science, edited by Chen Zhenming, China Renmin University Press, 2002 edition). While retaining the original themes of Policy Science, it has been significantly expanded (adding 6 new topics) and a substantial portion of the existing chapters has been thoroughly revised or rewritten. The book still adheres to the following three principles: First, it is guided by the policy and strategy theories of classical Marxist thinkers, as well as those of Mao Zedong, Deng Xiaoping, and Jiang Zemin. Second, it focuses on introducing, assimilating, and absorbing contemporary research achievements in policy science from abroad, particularly paying attention to tracking the latest trends in Western policy science development and borrowing its new theoretical and methodological outcomes. Third, it is grounded in China's national conditions, closely integrating with current domestic policy practices, using China's policy system, policy process, and policy practices as its research subjects, and emphasizing the summary of policy experiences with Chinese characteristics.
The book emphasizes introducing, assimilating, and absorbing contemporary research achievements in policy science from both domestic and international sources, especially tracking the latest trends in Western policy science development and borrowing its new theoretical and methodological outcomes. At the same time, it remains grounded in China's national conditions, closely integrating with current domestic policy practices, using China's policy system, policy process, and policy practices as its research subjects, and summarizing policy experiences with Chinese characteristics. Each chapter is accompanied by case studies. This book provides a fundamental teaching framework for graduate students (MPA students) in public administration for the Policy Science (Public Policy Analysis) course. It consists of 3 parts, 16 chapters—encompassing an introduction, the Policy System section (4 chapters), the Policy Process section (5 chapters), the Analytical Methods section (5 chapters), and a conclusion, along with references. Due to the extensive and broad range of topics covered, instructors can make appropriate selections and additions/deletions based on the actual teaching context, such as the target audience, course nature, and teaching hours.
