Patient's question:
I have atrial fibrillation and my left atrium is reduced in size. Additionally, my heart rhythm is irregular. What should I do about atrial fibrillation? Do I need surgery?Doctor's answer:
Atrial fibrillation is the most common type of persistent arrhythmia. During atrial fibrillation, the heart rate can sometimes reach 100 to 160 beats per minute, and it is absolutely irregular, with the atria losing their effective contraction function. The prevalence of atrial fibrillation is also closely related to diseases such as coronary heart disease, hypertension, and heart failure. Patients may experience a rapid heartbeat, accompanied by fatigue or a sense of exertion; dizziness, even fainting; chest pain, pressure, or discomfort; and shortness of breath during mild physical activity or rest. However, some patients may have no symptoms at all. If atrial fibrillation is detected, treatment should be initiated as soon as possible.
