Features: They were not the richest family in the world at that time, but they harnessed the power of money to the extreme, creating a magnificent legend! We cannot say that there would have been no Renaissance without the Medici, but without the Medici, the Renaissance would certainly have been a different scene! The Medici family started in banking and gradually acquired political status. For most of the 14th to 17th centuries, they were the de facto rulers of Florence. This family also produced three Popes and two French Queens, and experienced three political exiles. In the 15th century, even at the peak of the Renaissance, there was a significant conflict between the development of banking and the usury prohibition of the Catholic Church. In this context, the profits from banking required not only financial skills. The legend of the Medici lies in their mastery of political, diplomatic, military, and even theological tools to effectively maintain the family's dominant position, with Cosimo and Lorenzo de' Medici being particularly outstanding. Cosimo sponsored numerous artists, including Donatello, and was mourned with great honor upon his death, with the entire city attending his funeral. Under the explicit order of the city-state government, his tombstone bore the inscription "Father of the Nation." Lorenzo de' Medici early discovered the talented young Michelangelo. After his death, Machiavelli praised him in The History of Florence with the following words: "In Florence, and indeed in all of Italy, no one has ever been as famous for their intelligence and talent as he, nor has anyone's death caused such widespread grief!" The Medici family's patronage of the arts was relentless. They wielded influence and navigated success across fields such as banking, art, philosophy, and politics, earning the family an immortal reputation. Later generations even used the term "Medici Effect" to refer to innovation achieved at the intersection of multiple cultures. While the Medici Effect may be irreproducible, for today's business professionals, the Medici family is undoubtedly the best model for leveraging the disruptive power of money!
