Yan Geling Works Series -- Human World. Straw Sandal Aristocracy

Author: Yan Geling
Publisher:
Publish Date: 1998-10-01
Features: The novel depicts the observations and experiences of Shuangjiang, a young girl from the countryside who comes to the city to work as a nanny, meticulously describing the inner details of the renowned Cheng General's family: the extremely harmonious relationship between husband and wife, the lack of harmony in family life, and the three children, each with different temperaments and destinies. The work portrays the helplessness of a nouveau riche family as they inevitably split and decline, revealing their spiritual emptiness and lifelessness beneath their outwardly splendid facade. The novel has a keen sense of perception, agile language, and in some aspects, shares a touch of the charm of Dream of the Red Chamber.
