Features: As a long-time editor and publisher of children's books, every time I enter a bookstore or attend a book fair, I am always overwhelmed by the thousands of books available. How can we plan and publish books that are both needed and loved by young readers and beneficial to their growth? After some observation, we found that there are many problems in the current publishing of children's books. For example, there are too many books on the same theme, with some topics having dozens of versions. Although they differ in format and size, their content is repetitive. They cannot provide young readers with diverse book products. While bestsellers may have innovative topics and strong promotion, they can only achieve short-term popularity and do not meet the reading needs of young readers. So, what kind of books are needed and loved by young readers? We finally focused on science popularization books. The age of young readers is one of curiosity, where they should absorb a wide range of foundational knowledge. Our current standard textbooks cannot meet their demand for knowledge, and ordinary books also fail to provide them with a broad learning space. Only science popularization books combine knowledge and readability. In recent years, some publishers have published many science popularization books, but most of them are imported editions. Imported books aim for comprehensiveness but lack thorough and detailed explanations of each topic, and the knowledge they cover lacks resonance with modern young readers. Additionally, cultural and reading differences between China and the West make these science books unattractive to young readers, and their high prices also make many parents reluctant to buy them. A new question arises: What kind of science books are needed for Chinese young readers? After years of market research and reflection, we have gained some insights.
First, expand the scope of science popularization books and add some content that young readers are interested in to common categories, such as cars, military, and sports. Only by making young readers first pay attention to your books can we cultivate their reading habits and further introduce them to the rich and diverse encyclopedic knowledge in the books. Second, select some knowledge that young readers cannot learn from their textbooks, such as mysteries, arts, and etiquette. These topics can better broaden their horizons and enrich their knowledge. Third, in the content design, further extend the knowledge that young readers have already mastered and appropriately expand the breadth and depth of relatively familiar knowledge. With these ideas in mind, we took the bold step of adopting new writing and production methods and publishing some science popularization categories that young readers enjoy. These books have received positive feedback in the market, and the market response has further confirmed our goals and strengthened our confidence. After long and arduous editing work, our complete set of 360-Degree Panoramic Encyclopedias is about to be launched. Whether you can resonate with it or not, please share your valuable suggestions and opinions with us so that we can improve and refine it in the future. Finally, thank you for your attention to our books!
