What will happen to children with Rh hemolytic disease?

Patient's question:

The baby is only two days old and has a very severe case of jaundice. They are currently hospitalized in a children's hospital. The doctors have conducted thorough examinations and have determined that the child suffers from Rh hemolytic disease. The doctors explained a lot to us parents, but we didn't quite understand what they specifically meant. We would like to ask, what happens to children with Rh hemolytic disease?

Doctor's answer:

In clinical diagnosis, rh hemolysis reappearing is relatively rare but also quite severe. Its main cause is when the mother has rh-negative blood type, while the baby has rh-positive blood type. At birth, the baby's blood enters the mother's body in a small amount through the umbilical cord, leading to a recurrence of hemolysis. After birth, the baby may experience progressive worsening of jaundice, and in severe cases, symptoms such as hematuria (blood in urine), hepatosplenomegaly (enlarged liver and spleen), and other complications may occur, requiring active and prompt treatment.
