Can liver cysts be misdiagnosed?

Patient's question:

Recently, my friend told me they've been feeling a bit unwell. They went to the hospital to see a doctor, who said they had liver cysts. However, my friend has always been very healthy and has never had any serious illnesses. I suspect the doctor might have misdiagnosed them. I'd like to ask for some opinions: Can liver cysts be misdiagnosed? If someone does have this condition, how significant is the impact?

Doctor's answer:

Liver cysts are generally never misdiagnosed. Liver cysts are benign inflammatory conditions. If the cysts are small, they do not significantly affect health, and it may be considered to have follow-up ultrasound examinations irregularly. If the cyst size is large and there are obvious clinical symptoms, surgery is usually the solution. Recovery after surgery is relatively good, and the diet should be much lighter.
