Patient's question:
First-time mother experience is insufficient. I noticed some on my baby's face, but the doctor said the jaundice level is within the normal range. How many jaundice levels are considered normal for newborns?Doctor's answer:
Full-term infants with a bilirubin level higher than 2215 micromoles (129 mg) are considered normal preterm infants, and levels as high as 2565 micromoles (15 mg) are also within the normal range. Neonatal jaundice can be divided into two types: physiological jaundice and pathological jaundice. Physiological jaundice usually appears two to three days after birth and disappears within 1 to 3 weeks. In clinical diagnosis, 60% of full-term infants will develop jaundice within one week of birth, while 80% of premature infants will develop jaundice within 24 hours of birth.
