Does gastritis cause pain in the liver area?

Patient's question:

I have a stomach problem (2-year history) with symptoms such as nausea, belching, and abdominal pain. But recently, I noticed occasional dull pain in my epigastric area and lower right chest (liver area), which made me feel upset and unsure if it's a liver disease. The frequency is about two or three times a day, each lasting only a few seconds, with very mild, dull pain.

Doctor's answer:

Gastric diseases primarily manifest as discomfort such as stomach pain, bloating, acid reflux, belching, poor appetite, and so on. Severe gastritis or peptic ulcers can lead to referred pain and reflex pain. Based on your description, discomfort in the liver area can be temporarily ruled out as being caused by gastric diseases. Generally, pain caused by gastric diseases is usually referred or reflected to the left shoulder or under the armpit, and it is rare for the liver area to also experience pain. In your case, it is mainly considered to be related to liver and gallbladder issues, such as acute or chronic hepatitis, cholecystitis, liver abscess, and so on.
