Features: Short stories and novellas, with their moderate reading length and rapid reflection on real life, are deeply favored by a broad readership. In this field, there are often works of excellence by established writers that take the lead and win awards in national competitions; there are also emerging literary talents who continuously bring us new aesthetic experiences with their unique perspectives. Therefore, since the summer issue of 1995, this journal has annually edited and published an annual selection of outstanding works. The editing and publication of this series have now spanned ten years, with gradually increasing circulation and widespread influence and acclaim among readers.
The publication of The 2006 China Fiction Rankings was not aimed at seeking a place in the "ranking fever." Our original intention was simply to meet the need for reading high-quality fiction. Based on the annual selection of outstanding works, after careful comparison and selection, we ultimately chose 8 novellas and 8 short stories for this book, thereby highlighting the general achievements of novella and short story writing in 2006.
