Can hepatitis C patients give their children the flu vaccine?

Patient's question:

I am an HCV patient and when administering the flu vaccine under anesthesia to my child, I pricked my hand, which could transmit the infection to the child.

Doctor's answer:

Without excluding the possibility of infection, there is currently no effective vaccine for hepatitis C. The main route of transmission for hepatitis C is bloodborne. The most important way to determine if you may be infected is to check how the virus appears in your blood. After acute infection, the patient's serum will reappear with viral RNA within a few days, and it will persist for several months before antibodies are produced. Therefore, careful examination of viral antigens or viral RNA can assist in early diagnosis.
