Features: The intricate and intense power struggles in the political arena are no less fierce than the life-and-death battles on the battlefield. The establishment of the People's Republic of China in 1949 was completed through legal procedures by the first session of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) acting as the National People's Congress. CPPCC representatives from all walks of life secretly traveled north to the liberated areas. The Kuomintang (KMT) used every means to "intercept," while the Communist Party of China (CPC) employed all possible efforts to "receive," with hidden struggles that were thrilling. The political views and deep-seated grievances among different parties varied: some took risks to travel, others hesitated and, some focused on consolidating their own territories, some raised preconditions, and others remained wary of past conflicts. Prominent figures from all fields gathered in Beijing, but who would ultimately hold real power in the government? This book reveals numerous secrets of the political arena: Why did the secret contact between the CPC Central Committee in Xibaipo and the Hong Kong underground party suddenly break off? Why did Li Jishen become the target of public criticism? Why did Fu Zuoyi's mood change drastically after Lin Biao entered the city? What was Zhou Enlai pursuing when he chased Qu Wu under the moonlight? Where did Liu Yazi's grievances stem from? How did the various Chinese parties respond when the "North Atlantic Treaty Organization" (NATO) was established? This book has previously won numerous literary awards, including the People's Literature Award, the People's Liberation Army Literature Award, and the National Report Literature Award.
