Features: International security is a core issue in international politics. The rise of China in the 21st century has made Chinese scholars more concerned with international security. If China can achieve a peaceful rise in the 21st century, that is, to realize the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation through peaceful means, this would not only create a record in human history of rising to become a world power without experiencing war, but also accumulate political experience for maintaining international security. Since the end of the Cold War, Chinese scholars have conducted comprehensive research on international security, resulting in a vast body of literature, though the conclusions have varied. By reviewing articles on international security since the September 11, 2001, attacks, we have deeply felt the diverse trends in the development of academic research on international politics in our country. This book is divided into three parts: Security Concepts and Security Cooperation, Security Issues and Management, and Regional Security and China. Each part contains eight articles. In the first part, the article "The Nature of Peace" argues that peace does not equate to security, as the author believes that the cause of the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation has greater demands for security than peace. The article "Just War Theory" summarizes the development of Western "Just War Theory," it formed the core of international violence rules in the 20th century and can play a certain regulatory role in various forms of intervention in wars. In the second part, the article "The Iraq War and the International Strategic Landscape" argues that the international system has entered a unipolar era, with the balance of power among major countries largely collapsing. However, the unipolar order dominated by the United States will ultimately be broken, and multipolarity remains the future and a desirable goal for the development of world politics. The third part covers regions except for Oceania. The article "The Basis of Peace in East Asia" proposes that non-mutually-assured destruction nuclear deterrence is the core factor in maintaining peace in East Asia after the Cold War, while ASEAN collective security and South Korea's policy of peaceful reunification have played supplementary roles. The continuation of peace in East Asia, in the short term, depends largely on whether South Korea can maintain the effectiveness of its policy of peaceful reunification, and in the medium term, on whether China can maintain the effectiveness of nuclear deterrence.
