Features: This book draws on the research findings of the Chinese Academy of Sciences' Knowledge Innovation Project, "Migration, Transformation, and Optimization Management of Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium in Major Farmland Ecosystems of China," focusing on nutrient cycling in agricultural ecosystems and the control of agricultural non-point source pollution. The project was launched by the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2001 and is based on long-term, networked research conducted under the China Ecosystem Research Network (CERN) (China Ecosystem Research Network Science Committee, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Resources and Environment Bureau, 2002). It employs a combination of biophysical and socio-economic methods to study the migration and transformation of nutrients in farmland ecosystems and to develop optimization management strategies and measures at regional and national scales. This book consists of nine reports from two research projects. These reports summarize the status of non-point source pollution in Chinese agriculture (particularly in crop cultivation), review the current situation of pesticide pollution and lake eutrophication in China, and propose policy, regulatory, and technical recommendations for controlling agricultural non-point source pollution in China based on a comprehensive analysis of biophysical-socio-economic research findings. By summarizing international experiences in managing agricultural non-point source pollution, we hope this book will serve as a reference for readers on control strategies for agricultural non-point source pollution and multidisciplinary research.
