It also summarizes the profound influence of this great work on the entire Western literary thought. The author also traces the lives of numerous scholars who studied Homer's epics from the Renaissance to modern times. This book opens a path for readers to delve deeply into the origins of Western culture. Homer's epics are hailed as the most beautiful epics in the world, classics among Western literature, and at the same time, an eternal mystery. For centuries, people have continuously explored this legendary masterpiece, trying to unravel the mysteries it contains: Who was Homer? Did the Trojan War really happen? If it did, was it because of the beautiful Helen or for other reasons? Where was the city of Troy? And about the legendary Odysseus, did he really exist? Where did he travel? And what was the magical world of gods like? Among the many collections of Homeric studies, we recommend "The World of Homer." The author uses rich and detailed materials to reveal the mysteries of the Homeric world for readers. At the same time, he explains how Homer described the early prototype of Greek democracy, portrayed the lives of free people and slaves and their relationships in that society, reflected the relationship between "civilized" Greeks and "barbarians," as well as their relationship with the gods. The author also explains how Homer's epics influenced the works of writers and artists from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance, from Shakespeare's time to the present, and why Westerners regard Homer's epics as a must-read textbook. They also transformed the Homeric world into a living ideal.
