Can diabetics drink honey?

Patient's question:

My father-in-law has always had diabetes and has been taking medication to control it. Last week, a friend gave us a jar of honey, and it was even authentic wildflower honey. My father-in-law saw us drinking it and really wanted to try it too, but he has diabetes. Could you please tell me if people with diabetes can drink honey?

Doctor's answer:

Diabetic patients should not consume honey products. The calorie intake of bowel movements for diabetic patients needs to be quantified based on the patient's specific height and weight. This mainly includes carbohydrate-based staple foods, protein, and vegetables. Foods with high sugar content should not be used. If diabetic patients dislike sweet flavors, they can sufficiently increase the intake of foods containing xylitol, which can help stabilize blood sugar control.
