What is renal hypertension?

Patient's question:

Yesterday, I heard from a doctor that a colleague of theirs was diagnosed with renal hypertension a few days ago. I had only heard of hypertension before and had never heard of renal hypertension, so I don't really know what kind of disease it is. Could you please tell me what renal hypertension is?

Doctor's answer:

Renal hypertension refers to high blood pressure caused by kidney disease. Renal hypertension is the most common type of secondary hypertension. It can be further divided into renal parenchymal hypertension and renal vascular hypertension. Renal parenchymal hypertension refers to high blood pressure caused by inflammation of the renal parenchyma, such as acute glomerulonephritis, chronic glomerulonephritis, and pyelonephritis. Renal vascular hypertension is caused by elevated blood pressure due to narrowing of the renal blood vessels.
