Features: The New English-Chinese Dictionary, with a circulation exceeding 9 million copies, is an English-Chinese lexical reference book primarily compiled in the 1970s. The Century Edition of the New English-Chinese Dictionary has undergone a comprehensive revision and updating of the original dictionary, presenting a brand-new version. The Century Edition of the New English-Chinese Dictionary contains over 100,000 entries, including a large number of newly emerged words, meanings, and usages from the past two to three decades. Its definitions encompass the content of similar English-Chinese dictionaries published in the UK and the US. During the compilation process, we meticulously reviewed every entry, meaning, example, and idiom. On one hand, we retained the correct and useful content of the original version; on the other hand, we referenced various English-Chinese dictionaries and specialized dictionaries published in the 1990s to correct errors and omissions in the original dictionary, supplement new information for relevant entries, and remove obscure and obsolete words and meanings. The Century Edition of the New English-Chinese Dictionary contains over 100,000 entries, with definitions encompassing the content of similar English-Chinese dictionaries published in the UK and the US. The new edition has significantly replaced and updated the examples, removing hundreds of politically motivated or unnatural English sentences or phrases that were included for political reasons. The examples are now more targeted and practical, either helping readers better understand specific definitions or enabling them to grasp typical usage and apply it in various contexts. In the Century Edition of the New English-Chinese Dictionary, we have added over 300 illustrations, primarily to clarify definitions and make relevant entries or meanings immediately clear. This may be the first time such a practice has been adopted in English-Chinese dictionaries compiled on the mainland of China. In the appendices, we have added new content such as English proverbs, concise sayings, world countries and capitals, international direct dialing guides, and a table of chemical elements, all of which enhance the knowledge, practicality, and of the dictionary.
