English Academic Writing (Second Edition)

Author: Shi Jian, Shuai Peitian, Editors
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2007-01-01
Features: The entire book is written in the first-person perspective, fully embodying the humanistic spirit and enabling users to participate in discussions on an equal footing, thereby enhancing their confidence in writing authentic English academic papers. Some writing theories and techniques are shifted from textual explanations to exercises, reducing the dryness of didactic instruction for readers. At the same time, readers become enthusiastic as they explore and extract certain theories or techniques through exercises, as the next step is a sense of achievement.
As soon as English Academic Writing was published, we had plans for revision. Over the next two years, we closely observed reforms in English major and college English teaching, noted the new demands and needs of students in their English learning, and continuously sought out and studied new teaching research findings, contemplating how to enrich and perfect this already substantial textbook to provide readers with more help and less ambiguity.
For this revision, we have broadly added the CBE reference format and an introduction to academic writing techniques, optimized outline formats, and replaced less effective sample papers. In detail, we have tightened explanations that might leave readers puzzled, striving to convey the authors' ever-deepening understanding of the "so-what" behind theories and linguistic phenomena, including discussions on changes and trends in the use of punctuation.
The primary target audience for this book is senior undergraduate students, but it also serves as a valuable guide for other English learners and practitioners.
