Changes in the UK's labor relations adjustment agency

Author: (English) Linda Dickens, (English) Alan Neal and John Taylor, translated by the British-Chinese Association
Publisher:
Publishing Date: 2007-01-01
Features: This issue is specially presented in commemoration of the thirty years of work by the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (ACAS) in the core areas of labor relations in the UK. The authors, Alan Neal and John Taylor, once worked in Beijing, providing technical assistance for the establishment of labor arbitration tribunals in China. During their discussions, they gradually developed the idea of editing and publishing this book. Subsequently, under the guidance of editor Linda Dickens and in collaboration with Alan Neal, the book gradually took shape at the University of Warwick. The editors aim to provide a comprehensive overview of the current state of the UK's labor relations system, as many existing materials are outdated and lack comprehensiveness, covering only parts of the relevant systems. We believe that if we can offer a comprehensive and expertly written resource on the current adjustments and institutions of UK labor relations, including discussions on the current development status and future challenges, it would greatly benefit policymakers, researchers, students, and other readers. Therefore, we began to invite contributions for this book. The authors invited to contribute to this book are all renowned academic experts and practitioners in the field, particularly those involved in specific institutional aspects. However, the distinction between academic experts and practitioners is often blurred. Some authors have held different positions at various times; many authors simultaneously engage in academic projects while also acting as practitioners or institutional builders; and some non-academic theoretical roles sometimes reflect practical or operational content. We believe that this combination effectively bridges professionals and individuals directly involved in the practical operations of various institutions, allowing them to engage in independent and in-depth discussions, which is highly valuable. We sincerely hope that this book not only attracts readers' interest due to the breadth of its content but also that the content aligns with the intended subject matter. For this reason, the editorial team has intentionally avoided imposing personal views of the authors. We sincerely thank all the authors for their enthusiastic acceptance of our invitation, their valuable time, and their dedicated contributions to this work, tailored to our content and structural needs.
