Features: To organize and summarize the achievements of prose creation in China in 2006, the Chinese Prose Association selected 91 outstanding prose pieces from the vast body of prose works. After careful deliberation and research by a specially formed selection committee, 10 excellent works were chosen and presented to a broad readership of prose enthusiasts. During the selection and evaluation process, we adhered to artistic quality, professionalism, fairness, and literary conscience. The judges closely monitored and tracked prose creation across the country over the past year, reading nearly all published prose works in public circulation. Based on a thorough understanding and grasp of the current state of prose creation, they repeatedly deliberated, debated, and judged the value of the works, thereby winnowing the wheat from the chaff. The selected pieces either presented original and insightful arguments, broke new ground, and left readers stunned, or possessed sharp intellectual edge, critically addressing customs and traditions, offering readers an awakening and awe-inspiring experience. These works were chosen and compiled to fulfill the trust and expectations of the times and readers, and to fulfill our responsibility to the cause of contemporary Chinese literature.
