Penile inflammation and decay

Patient's question:

Half a month after penile trauma, one area became red, swollen, inflamed, and necrotic.

Doctor's answer:

Balanoposthitis can be broadly categorized into four major types: traumatic, contact, drug-induced, and infectious. In terms of traumatic balanoposthitis, it is often caused by injuries from impacts, zipper traps, or injuries during sexual intercourse. In such cases, the foreskin may become significantly red, swollen, and painful. If the balanitis is caused by scratching due to parasitic infection of the penis, it is often accompanied by a sensation of itching. Contact balanitis primarily occurs due to the use of local antiseptics or topical creams and ointments.
