Features: Xin Qiji (1140-1207), original name Zi Tanfu, later changed to You'an, styled Jiaxuan, was a native of Licheng, Shandong (now Jinan, Shandong), a famous patriotic poet of the Southern Song Dynasty, and one of the most accomplished lyric poets in the history of Chinese Song Dynasty lyrics. In his youth, Xin Qiji joined the anti-Jin resistance army. In the 32nd year of Shaoxing (1162), he submitted a memorial to return south and was summoned by Emperor Gaozong, appointed as Chengwu Lang, and later promoted to Jiangyin Jianpan. He served as the Pacification Commissioner for Hubei, Jiangxi, Hunan, Fujian, and Zhejiang. Xin Qiji's surviving lyrics number over 600, making him the writer with the most lyrics preserved from the Song Dynasty. His lyrics primarily focus on the real issues of the nation and ethnicity, expressing passionate patriotic sentiments, demonstrating a heroic ambition to restore national unity. They also reflect his nostalgia for the northern regions and praise the anti-Jin resistance, with an uplifting and fervent tone. Additionally, his works depicting rural scenery and reflecting the lives of farmers are rich in vitality, offering a fresh sense. His lyrical poems are concise yet profound. Xin Qiji inherited the unrestrained style of Su Shi's lyrics and the tradition of patriotic lyric poets in the early Southern Song Dynasty, further expanding the realm of lyrics and broadening their themes to the extent that almost nothing was beyond the scope of lyric composition. He creatively integrated the strengths of various literary forms such as poetry, prose, and fu, enriching the expressive techniques of lyrics and forming the unique style of Xin Qiji's lyrics. This book collects 639 of Xin Qiji's lyrics, arranged based on the "Chronological Annotation of Jiaxuan Lyrics." The appendix includes not only general evaluations of Xin Qiji's lyrics but also bibliographies and indexes of historical and contemporary studies on Jiaxuan lyrics, providing comprehensive research references.
