Features: Tsongkhapa Master is the founder of the Gelug sect (commonly known as the "Yellow Hat" sect) of Tibetan Buddhism and is revered in Tibetan Buddhism as the embodiment of the Wisdom Bodhisattva Manjushri. Throughout his life, Tsongkhapa Master extensively studied under renowned teachers and became highly erudite. His teachings involved a rigorous and thorough approach to selecting and absorbing the doctrines and views of various Tibetan Buddhist schools, while adopting the original Buddhist practices of begging, sitting meditation, and clothing. He advocated the integration of the Prajnaparamita Madhyamaka and the esoteric Vajrayana, earnestly correcting the flaws of the old Buddhist schools while strictly upholding the precepts. He wore a yellow hat to distinguish himself from other old schools, becoming a reformer of Tibetan Buddhism in the 14th and 15th centuries and thus establishing the Yellow Hat sect of Tibetan Buddhism.
Tsongkhapa Master believed that the Buddha's teachings encompass only two aspects: "teaching" (dharma) and "realization" (proof). All teachings of the dharma are contained in the Three Baskets of Scriptures (Tripitaka), while all realizations of proof are embodied in the Three Trainings (Sila, Samadhi, Prajna). Therefore, the Three Baskets cannot be neglected, and the Three Trainings must be fully cultivated. Tsongkhapa Master emphasized that the practice of both exoteric and esoteric teachings must follow a gradual progression and adhere strictly to the precepts.
Tsongkhapa Master authored numerous works, with his complete works comprising approximately 160 volumes. His major works include The Great Treatise on the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment, which outlines the profound views and extensive practices of the exoteric teachings; The Great Treatise on the Stages of the Path to Vajrayana, which summarizes the empowerment and ritual practices of the esoteric teachings; The Treatise on the Profound View of the Middle Way with Exposition of Its Esoteric Meaning, The Treatise on the Clarification of the Incomprehensible and Comprehensible, and others, which delve into the profound Madhyamaka views; as well as The Rules for Monks and The Explanation of the Bodhisattva Precepts, which summarize the precepts of both the Theravada and Mahayana Buddhist schools.
This book is the first to compile and publish various works of Tsongkhapa Master translated by Master Fazun. It serves as an important classic for understanding and studying the thoughts and doctrines of Tsongkhapa Master, the founder of the Gelug sect of Tibetan Buddhism in Chinese-speaking regions.
