Features: Xu Yan is an expert in military history research at the National Defense University. I remember seeing his first small book over a decade ago, titled Mao Zedong as a Military Leader, which left a deep impression on me. Later, I frequently came across his name in various military monographs. The reason for the strong impression was that his writing was fluent, profound, and free of the typical clichés of modern essays. What is even rarer is that he could always find the extraordinary in the ordinary, and reveal his deep expertise from seemingly mundane topics. His articles exuded literary beauty, historical rigor, and a broad sociological perspective, offering readers consistent insights. As soon as I saw this book, I immediately felt its value. My impression is that in recent years, there have been many new achievements in the study of the history of the Korean War. For example: the Academy of Military Sciences published a comprehensive history of the Korean War; Pang Xianzhi and Li Jie wrote a book on Mao Zedong and the Korean War. This book is another monograph summarizing Mao Zedong's role during the Korean War, with greater advantages in military history, and is the first major work in China to focus on the military history perspective of Mao Zedong and the Korean War.
