Features: Provides a detailed analysis. The origins of the Nu people can be divided into four distinct parts:
First, one branch of the ancient "Lu Lu Man" tribe, which today consists of the Nu people who identify as "Ruorou" and live in Lamping County and Lushui County, originated from the "Lu Lu Man" tribe. According to the 13th volume of the History of the Yuan Dynasty·Geography, it records: "Lanzhou is located east of the Lancang River. In the Yongping period of the Han Dynasty, the road to Boshan Mountain was first opened, crossing the Lancang River, establishing Bounan County. During the Tang Dynasty, it was part of the Lu Lu Man tribe. By the time of the Duan clan, Lanzhou Prefecture was established, subordinated to Dali. In the fourth year of the Xianzong reign of the Yuan Dynasty, it surrendered and was subordinated to the Tahan Zhang civilian official. In the twelfth year of the Zhiyuan reign, Lanzhou was renamed." Lanzhou refers to today's Lamping County, and the two counties are adjacent to each other. The "Lu" tribe mentioned in the Tang Dynasty's Lamping likely refers to the Nu people who identify as "Ruorou" and live in Lamping Tuole.
Second, the Nu people who identify as "Nu Su." The Nu people believe that Nujiang is named after the Nu people living there.
Third, the Nu people who identify as "A Long." A Long consists of two major parts: one is the indigenous population, and the other is people who migrated from other places. Due to their long residence in Nujiang, they were influenced by A Long and eventually became A Long. Some argue that the A Long people should be considered indigenous to the Nu people.
Fourth, the Nu people who identify as "A Nu" within Gongshan.
