Features: History is serious, yet it is also compassionate. Today, Chinese teachers are once again at the forefront of historical choices, presenting an image of a marginalized group transitioning to a dominant one to the world. In the 26 years since the reform and opening-up, China's economy has achieved miraculous rapid development, and people's material living standards have improved. At the same time, people's concepts, awareness, and value orientations have changed, leading to confusion. As a group in society with cutting-edge science and technology and high humanistic literacy, teachers have become darlings of the economic market. In a society with increasingly fierce commercial competition, teachers' choices have become problematic: whether to define success by their ability to bring economic benefits or to continue taking pride in "nurturing countless students." Are they to join the tide of pursuing material life or to remain steadfast in their humble posts of teaching and nurturing? Han Yu, in his essay "On the Teacher," stated: "A teacher is one who imparts knowledge, teaches skills, and resolves doubts." He succinctly summarized the responsibilities of a teacher as: imparting knowledge, teaching skills, and resolving doubts. That is to say, teachers must pass on knowledge and clarify doubts. This includes teaching students the basic principles of being a person and helping them resolve confusions about their life philosophy and values. In people's eyes, teachers are the "engineers of the human soul," and the title "role model for others" places higher moral demands on them. However, under the negative impact of the market economy today, the moral values of some teachers have become distorted. Some lack professionalism, fail to prepare lessons diligently, do not correct homework, or even abandon their posts to pursue "second jobs." Some dislike their students, mock and scold them with coldness, and adopt a harsh attitude. Some turn schools into markets, turning students into consumer groups to enrich themselves. Some teachers have sloppy appearances and vulgar behavior, using teaching as a means for personal gain. In recent years, cases of teachers abusing, physically punishing, or even raping students in some regions have sparked strong public and academic reactions, severely damaging the image of teachers. As a result, the traditional sense of social responsibility and dedication of teachers has gradually faded, while instrumental rationality has grown increasingly inflated, and value rationality has shrunk continuously. The quality of teacher ethics has profound implications.
