Features: "The Complete Collection of Chinese Traditional Crafts" is a major research project of the Chinese Academy of Sciences under the "Nineth Five-Year Plan" and a key book publishing project of the National Press and Publication Administration under the "Nineth Five-Year Plan." This series fills the gap in the publication of comprehensive works on traditional crafts in China. The collection consists of 13 volumes, including general discussions, technical philosophy, ceramics, metal crafts, traditional machinery research, lacquer art, furniture, sculpture, paper-cutting and printing, gold and silver fine crafts and cloisonné, traditional Chinese medicine processing, cultural relic restoration and authentication, and renowned craftsmen through the ages. The authors are experts and scholars from various fields. Chinese traditional crafts have a long history, a wide variety of types, exquisite techniques, and are extremely rich in scientific and technological, cultural, and artistic connotations. Their influence spans all aspects of social and intellectual life. Almost all the artificial artifacts that have been handed down or unearthed originated from traditional crafts. Based on this, it can be said to some extent that the splendid and colorful material civilization of ancient China was created by a multitude of traditional crafts. From this alone, one can see the immense role traditional crafts have played in the development of the nation and society. The authors of this book, supported by the "Comprehensive Research on Chinese Traditional Technology" project, selectively investigated traditional machinery with the aim of understanding China's mechanical technology.
